Toutle
Toutle is an unincorporated community located 10 miles east of Castle Rock along Washington State Route 504. The Toutle community takes its name from the Hullooetell, a Chinookan tribe. Toutle is known as a tourism town for Mount St. Helens and is a gateway to visitor and science centers, trails, and National Monuments in honor of the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens. The community offers walking, jogging, and biking trails, parks, boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, tourism, and camping opportunities.

HARRY GARDNER PARK- Cowlitz County’s Harry Gardner Park on the South Toutle River offers overnight camping, river access, playgrounds, fishing, and areas to explore the mud flows.

SILVER LAKE BOAT LAUNCH- Located off of I-5, exit 49 on Kerr Road is a paved area great for boating and fishing.

TOUTLE COWLITZ MERGER- Located off of I-5, exit 52 is a walk in water and fishing access spot.

KID VALLEY CAMPGROUND– Located along Spirit Lake Highway in a quiet forest area. Kid Valley Campground has beautiful hiking opportunities, biking, and site seeing. There is several near by activities for winter and summer time! Kid Valley Campground showcases a buried A-Frame where a visitor can walk through a home inundated by mud flows.

HARRY’S RIDGE- In the South Cascades is a 4 mile trail that reveals a beautiful overlook of the Mountain, vast rolling mountains, and hummocks.

MOUNT ST. HELEN’S FOREST LEARNING CENTER- Up Highway 504, mile post mark 33, Mount St. Helen’s Forest Learning Center displays interactive exhibits and the recovery of the 1980 eruption. The Forest Learning center gives access to beautiful hiking trails that reveal Mount St. Helen’s crater, Spirit Lake, Mount Adams, and Mount Margaret.

HUMMOCKS TRAIL #229- This 1.2 mile loop trail that follows along hills created by the 1980 Mount St. Helen’s eruption.

MT. ST. HELEN’S FOREST LEARNING CENTER- Up Highway 504, mile post mark 33, Mount St. Helen’s Forest Learning Center Walks you through a life-like forest, you can experience the Eruption Chamber, and learn about forest recovery, reforestation and conservation of forest resources. The Forest Learning center gives access to a half mile interpretive trail that showcases the mountain, elk and replanted forests.
