Construction on the City of Longview's downtwon streetscape project is progressing smoothly and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. All involved in the project would like to thank the downtown businesses and members of the community for their cooperation and patience throughout the construction. Longview Mayor Don Jenson called the $1.8 million project a “re-investment in our community,” adding it should encourage people to visit downtown, stay longer and come back more often. The project, paid for almost entirely through grants, will replace sidewalks, crosswalks and trees, add lighting, benches, irrigation and other features along a 3-block section of Commerce Avenue.

Hundreds of people attended the Port of Kalama's Open House for its new administrative offices and Transportation Interpretive Center. If you weren't able to attend, stop by and visit the interpretive center which is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Located at 110 West Marine Drive, the interpretive center tells how various forms of transportation affected Kalama's history and how it continues to drive the area's economy.
